Pinterest Fail

My streak of having incredible success with dinner recipes from Pinterest and complete failures with baked goods continues.

I came across this Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bar recipe on Pinterest and was so excited. Now that Mr. C is home, I really need to pick up my baking game. I had an excuse when I lived by myself. I didn't bake because I didn't want to be eating 50 cookies or an entire cake by myself. Mr. C's mom is an amazing baker so I've got to follow in her footsteps haha.

I had all the ingredients on hand for this recipe so gave it a whirl on Saturday night. It's pretty hard to mess up, so I know I didn't screw up. It also turned out looking exactly like the above photo but something is just really off with it. I don't find it tasty at all. It's too flour-y and does not taste like cookie dough at all. Such a disappointment.

Mid failed attempt.
I swear, I've tried a handful of recipes from Pinterest in the desert department and have been so disappointed each time. I think I'm just going to resort to using my mom's / grandmother's recipes for now. Tried and true.

You win some, you loose some.

Have you tried any amazing desert recipes off Pinterest lately that you can GUARANTEE I'll like? ;)

  1. Oh man that sucks! That happened to me with chili last week-- it was disgusting!! I had such success with recipes recently that I guess it was time for a pinterest fail haha

  2. That stinks!! I have had a few that didn't quite work and I was luckily able to adjust, but that is tougher to do with baked goods than main dishes.

  3. I saw that pin the other day! It's so frustrating when you try a new recipe and it doesn't turn out. I'm cheap, so I get mad at the wasted product more than I do anything else :) Here's the link to a good oatmeal chocolate chip recipe that I use. They're not real gooey because they are low fat, but they make a great snack: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2011/03/low-fat-chewy-chocolate-chip-oatmeal.html

  4. I delete things I pinned if I hate them. So here's my desserts: http://www.pinterest.com/stephs33/desserts/ and I've made and liked almost all of them (there's maybe 3 I haven't tried yet) The one at the very bottom, Slow Cooker Cake Mix Apple Cobbler, amazing. It's my go to and it's like 3 ingredients and impossible to screw up.

  6. BOOOO. The only Pinterest fail I've ever had was trying to make these strawberry things in the oven. They were supposed to be chewy and then ended up in the trash lol. Here is my baking board: http://www.pinterest.com/travelbabbles/baking/

  7. Aww, too bad it didn't taste as good as it looks!! Pinterest is super hit and miss. I've found quite a few good ones on there, but a lot of just okay. Tried and true is the way to go!

  8. I hate when that happens! Last year I tried some pumpkin donut holes I found on pinterest, and they were horrible. Now, I have never had a bad experience in the entree department, so that's a plus. HOWEVER, I don't know if you've seen my recipe for chocolate heartattack goodness, but I can guarantee you will like this. It's the best ever. http://www.theladyokieblog.com/2013/02/death-by-chocolate.html

  9. But they are too pretty to suck! Oh well. Consider this post a public service announcement - many people will take them off their boards at your advice!
